Reading is investing in a global future to help tackle some of the major issues facing society today.
Our ambitious vision builds on a reputation as one of the strongest research-led universities in the UK, with world-leading research in climate change, sustainable buildings and environments, food security and healthy ageing. Excellence with impact is an embedded part of our culture and has global reach through our research and teaching in law, literacy and multilingualism, business and finance.
Reading's vision for the future, led by our Vice-Chancellor, Sir David Bell, is supported by our Academic Investment Programme – a £13.1m investment over the first five years and £3.8m ongoing annual spending after that. Fifty-four leading academics from across the world have joined us over the last two years alone and are helping us build on recent developments in cross-disciplinary research and teaching, focusing around Climate & Environmental Sciences, Law, Business & Finance, Food Security, Cardiovascular, Metabolic & Neuroscience Biology, Brain Computer Interface, and Literacy & Multilingualism.
The benefits of these new appointments are already being realised through additional research grant income, new centres, high-quality outputs, and clear evidence of leadership and vision.
